About the Pine Mountain Club-Mt. Pinos Web Cam
This Web Cam is located in the home of Scott and Barbara Rosen, owners of Frazier Mountain Internet Service. The Web Cam overlooks Woodland Drive in Pine Mountain Club, California facing South towards Mt. Pinos. Pine Mountain Club is about 15 miles west of Frazier Park, California, and about 20 miles west of Tejon Pass and the Grapevine section of Interstate 5.

The picture is taken using a Video Camera hooked up to a Snappy. The Snappy is manufactured by Play, Inc. and plugs into the parallel port of the PC. We previously used Connectix's Color QuickCam, but it didn't handle looking into the Sun very well. The Snappy is connected to an Pentium 120 PC with 32MB of RAM and a 1.2GB hard disk It is running Windows 95 and uses Snappy 2.0 software in conjuction with Kent's Automatic Snappy Snapper. Previously, we run an FTP daemon on this computer and had our web server ftp the image from this computer via a cron job (we have a permanent connection to our office via our wireless network). However, since Kent implemented the ability to automatically run a program after snapping the picture, we now have the Webcam computer snap the picture and then initiate the upload of the picture to the web server.

Our web cam first went into service in September 1996. Since that time, we've tried many different things to improve it including a larger version of the picture, adding MPEG Movies from the WebCam shots, and adding temperature information
